When I got sober 14 years ago, God took me to the sea and taught me to fish. I spent many nights alone on those beaches, hunting white steenbras in the stillness of the night — no voices, no company, just the quiet certainty that God had something better for me.
He showed me that unless I replaced my deadly addiction with something life-giving, I wasn’t going to make it. Going on a diet doesn’t mean you stop eating — you change what sustains you. I didn’t know what was coming, and it didn’t matter. Losing all human love made me wholly and wholeheartedly dependent on Him.
So what is art to me?
It is the indomitable will of sacred worship and perseverance.
