The Story Behind the Canvas
From personal challenges to creative expression, my journey is captured in every stroke of paint.

Artist Biography
Hi, I'm Dunc Ebedes
My name is Duncan Ebedes. I’m a professional artist — and a former street rat.
I was born in the fires of Mount Doom and delivered from the darkness by God’s almighty hand.
My painting process is simple, and it always has been.
I paint like it’s my last day on earth.
Not because I fear the end, but because I honour the moment. Each brushstroke is a breath.
Each canvas, a conversation I might never have again.
I don’t paint to impress or perfect — I paint because I have to.
Because something inside me asks to be seen, felt, released.
That urgency, that rawness — that’s what gives the work its life.
And the day that feeling fades — the day I no longer feel that need — is the day I’ll put down the brush.
Not out of defeat, but out of respect. Until then, I paint as if it’s the last story I’ll ever tell.
In early 2024, Ebedes signed with The Art Spread in Orange County, California, as an up-and-coming featured artist. He also has a collection of six of his works showcased in the exclusive Art Brunch Gallery in Cyprus, Europe.
In July 2024, Chris Apperley-Bennett, an art curator and photographer with an MA in Art Gallery and Museum Studies from London, invited Ebedes to showcase 40 works from his new collection in his first solo virtual exhibition, which successfully took place in early August 2024, selling 30% of his artworks exhibited in the opening weekend.
In a remarkable milestone, Ebedes became one of the first South African artists to be listed on the prestigious Artsy, the world’s premier online art marketplace, exclusively available to artists represented by select galleries. Achieving all of this in less than a year of painting.
Dunc Ebedes has created over 150 original artworks, each showcasing his unique style and creative vision. With a growing appreciation for his work, over a 100 of these pieces have found new homes, reflecting the increasing recognition of his talent and the impact his art has on those who encounter it.
