Just bread and milk.
Who am I kidding?
I know exactly how this ends.
The long, beautiful road to get there is part of the excuse — a little drive for “inspiration,” I tell myself. Maybe I’ll soak up the scenery, maybe something will stir creatively. I’ve even dressed for the occasion: my only paint-free jacket and my best hat. I don’t bother grabbing one of the thousand Woolies bags stashed in the cupboard — after all, it’s only two items.
But the moment I walk in, it begins.
My adrenaline kicks in… and yet I feel strangely at peace, surrounded by fresh produce and seasonal temptation. I grab a basket — but let’s be honest, a trolley is just easier to steer.
Any sense of logic or responsibility evaporates as I drift down the aisles.
This was meant to take five minutes. It’s been thirty.
There’s no turning back now.
Tapioca? Blueberry-strawberry cheesecake? Three-tiered chocolate mousse? Malva pudding?
Best take them all — the portions are small, and missing out would just be tragic.
Nine bags later, I’m finally heading out. Mission accomplished.
I won’t be back for months. (Yeah, right.)
And again, I pass that farmhouse… Surely, that’s the real reason I made the trip in the first place.
I’ve unpacked everything.
And now I have to go back.
I forgot the bread and milk.
