Fire on the Mountain – Oil Painting

Fire on the Mountain

by Duncan Ebedes

Dimensions: 1,2m x 90cm

In his evocative poem, “The Tyger,” William Blake ponders:
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?
As I paint, I strive to grasp the essence of my subject. This process is deeply internal, with my soul and mind working in harmony to understand how something moves, feels, breathes, and its attributes, especially in relation to human beings.
Fire, by its very nature, scorches, burns, and appears destructive. However, whatever fire consumes is rejuvenated and cleansed. I’ve witnessed this many times when large forests and bushveld burn; after a few weeks, new growth appears, and the cycle of beauty begins again.
Don’t fear the fire in your life. Your fire is your passion; it may scorch, burn, be set ablaze, destroyed, and reborn into something beautiful. Out of the hottest fire comes the strongest steel.
